Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus O.Kravchenko pays a working visit to Sweden

On June 11-13, 2018 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Oleg Kravchenko, paid a working visit to the Kingdom of Sweden. 

During the visit O.Kravchenko took part in the international conference “Managing complexity: Addressing societal security challenges in the Baltic Sea region”.

Background Information: Foreign Ministry of Sweden and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) co-hosted the event which was attended by the Swedish Foreign Minister,  Margot Wallström, and the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Annika Söder, high ranking representatives of Foreign Ministries of Denmark, Estonia, Norway, Poland and Russia, as well as heads of the Secretariats of the Council of the Baltic Sea States and the Nordic Council of Ministers. At the conference the officials and numerous security experts from the Baltic Sea states discussed wide range of topical issues on regional agenda, including confronting terrorist threats, reacting to climate change, providing for uninterrupted functioning of critical infrastructure.

In his speech at the panel on nuclear security issues in the Baltic Sea region, O.Kravchenko stressed the input made by Belarus in combating illicit trafficking of radioactive materials. The Deputy Foreign Minister pointed out that our country pays constant attention to the security of nuclear facilities located on its’ territory, as well as reconfirmed intention of the Belarusian side to further participate in the international cooperation in this field.

During the visit to Sweden, the Deputy Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry also met with the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Urban Ahlin, and the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Annika Söder. At the meetings, the parties discussed a number of topical issues both on bilateral and regional agenda.

During the talks with the Director General of the Council of the Baltic Sea States Secretariat, Maira Mora, prospectives for practical cooperation with this regional organisation were considered with the focus on spheres of mutual interest.
